The Globe Presents...San & Soni!

We are very excited to introduce a new label to our group of talented designers! San & Soni, a NYC-based label, is a contemporary brand that appeals to any young woman looking for casual clothes with a unique twist. To get to know the design duo behind the brand, I spoke with Sonali & Jeet about their new label!

When was your company founded?

San & Soni's debut collection was launched in Spring 2009.

Describe the type of girl you see wearing your clothing.

Definitely a chic and fearless girl who is independent and modern. Not so much trend conscious.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

We get most of our inspiration from film, music, art, travel and different eras. Menswear and androgyny are a part of our inspiration every season.


What would you say is your brand’s overall aesthetic?

Boy meets girl, exquisite and unique hand work, unexpected subtle details without being overly done.

Are there any key items that buyers should look for in your collection?

Our blouses and dresses with novelty touch, they are great in any wardrobe!



Is there anything else people should know about San & Soni?

We are dedicated to giving back, so 5% of our net profit is donated to various charity organizations.

The Globe Spotlight: Spool Boutique!

The Globe Showroom is happy to feature Spool Boutique, a store that our West Coast showroom has a close relationship with! Carrying Nonoo, We are Owls, Smythe and Camilla & Marc, Spool Boutique is located in West Los Angeles in a private residence where they cater to a diverse clientele via personal styling appointments.

Owner Gina Lamanna opened the boutique in 2005, and her business is as strong as ever! We are big fans of Spool Boutique, but we wanted to get more of an inside look of the boutique and the owner.

Growing up in South Jersey, Gina loved fashion ever since she was a young girl. She went to FIT in New York City, where she studied fashion merchandising and fabric styling. From that point on Gina submerged herself in fashion, holding various jobs before she created Spool Boutique. Read on for more of my interview with Gina!

Boutique owners always have a detailed fashion background, what were your jobs before landing on Spool?

Before I moved to the west coast, I owned a jewelry boutique for a few years before realizing that I really wanted to work with clothes. I worked as wardrobe stylist for few years and then landed a job as a buyer at high-end boutique in Santa Monica. I was with that store for 8 years until I realized I wanted to do my own thing.

How did your prior experience with buying and styling help you create your new boutique?

I realized that many women were either too busy with their careers or being a mommy to find the time to shop. What many of them wanted was a one-on-one relationship with someone who had the experience to manage and update their wardrobe.

Having just started my own family, I was also having trouble finding the time to devote to my love of fashion. The answer was to create a small, intimate boutique, solely by-appointment, to cater to my clients' schedules.

What do you look for in a collection, when picking one for your boutique?

Definitely timeless, classic pieces. Pieces that are functional and made very well. I am a fabric snob when it comes to cashmere and cottons! The fabric has to feel good and move well against the skin.

Spool Boutique is known for being an appointment-only store, what are the benefits of that?

I think it really comes down to the service I provide my clients. On every buy-trip I go on, I keep all my clients in mind, buying especially for their tastes. I make sure each piece they purchase not only looks fabulous on them, but also works with the other pieces in their wardrobes.

Summer is here & many girls are looking for things to buy, what are your top trends for this summer?

Right now, I am loving linen pants, light weight tees, We Are Owls silk scarves, lounge wear for poolside & the beach, and silk camis.

Do you have any trend predictions for the fall season? What are you looking forward to seeing?

I am super excited about a handful of new designers I found! Plus all the fur, leather and colorful denim/pants that are showing up all over the fall runways – they will be the hot commodities!

Young Hollywood Starlets Emma Watson & Selena Gomez have recently been spotted wearing Camilla & Marc!!

Harry Potter's Emma Watson wore the Australian-based label on CNN's Larry King last night, sporting the cream "Lockhart" blazer. Last week, Selena Gomez rocked the label when she appeared on Regis & Kelly last week, where she looked lovely in the ivory "Horizon" frock.

Both stars looked fresh and summer-ready in their Camilla & Marc pieces!

Royal Airport Style - Kate Middleton in Smythe!

Miss Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (aka Kate Middleton) was recently spotted wearing a navy Smythe blazer! She was seen wearing the Canadian-based label as she boarded a plane set to arrive in Canada, where the Royal couple will begin their North American tour!

The slim blazer looks very smart on Kate, and it also highlights her great figure.
