The Globe West Welcomes A New Intern!

The Globe West is happy to announce their new addition to their LA team, their new intern Janelle Gutierrez!

Janelle began her internship with the Globe in January, and she is truly enjoying her time there! A California native, Janelle was born in Woodland Hills and is now living in Laguna Niguel. The 19 year-old attends FIDM, where she wants to major in Merchandise Marketing.

Interning alongside Bella and Casey (they all met at school), the three girls have all bonded through the Globe! They are so close in fact, that Janelle and Casey (who I interviewed here) are planning to move in together! Read more below as I chat more with Janelle!

What are your fashion aspirations?

I hope to one day make a name for myself in the styling business. I fell in love with fashion when I can remember and always had a passion for creating outfits and looks. Whether it be for a magazine line or a personal stylist, I would love to give it all a try!

Share some of your daily tasks at the Showroom.

I start my day with whatever they have on the list. It can be organizing the showroom or changing the mannequins; I love creating their outfits! I put out new displays out on the floor & do paperwork in the back room. I help them pack and unpack when they travel. Just a whole assortment of things that I all enjoy.

Fashion has its fun moments! What is the most interesting thing that has happened at the showroom?

On my first day, I was helping to hang clothes and I was the only one on the floor. I was told to properly greet anyone who came in. So at one point a man walked in and I said "Hi welcome to The Globe, is there anything I can do for you?" He asked for Karen or Tracy, so I went into the back and told them who was here to see them. Everybody just starts laughing! It ended up being one of the owners from the showroom!

The outfit you're wearing in this picture is super cute. Describe your style!

Thank you! I'm not sure how to describe my style. I just love fashion so much. I like to try it all but in general I have more of a hipster/hippie style.

The most important lesson Janelle has learned as an intern is: "With a lot of hard work, dedication, and time a lot of opportunities can come your way." Janelle's hard work has definitely paid off, and we are glad to have her on our team!

My last day at The Globe!

Today is my last full day of interning at The Globe Showroom, and I found it necessary to reflect on the amazing time I’ve had here. 6 months ago, I began this journey as a quiet intern who didn't really know where I wanted to go with my fashion career. Looking back, I've realized how much I've grown as a person. I am more confident with myself and with my knowledge of the fashion industry, and I couldn't have got to this point without The Globe!

Throughout my months of interning, I've learned many vital lessons that I know will be crucial for the years to come. I have contributed with sales, PR, merchandising, marketing, and retail; where else can you learn all of those things at once?

I have become so connected with the collections, the showroom space, and the atmosphere that it is going to so difficult to leave. I don't feel like an intern anymore, I feel like I'm a part of your team.

Ashley, Angela, Justine, Amy, Korie, Emily Chen, Emily Glass, Lizanne, Bruno, Lisa, Jeffrey, Tracey, Karen, Marie Jo, I cannot thank you all enough for the kindness you all showed me during my time here. I have learned so many different things by working with you, watching your appointments, and just having regular conversations with you all. It's going to be incredibly weird not seeing your faces 3 times a week!

Interning at The Globe has refined my views of the inner workings of the fashion industry and how everything runs behind-the-scenes. I will be leaving this internship with so much knowledge and respect for this industry; I’m grateful that you all have taught me this. I'll miss getting stuck in the dreaded hanger closet, ooh-ing & aah-ing over new season collections, assisting with buyer appointments, & helping you all out with strengthening your accounts.

Just because I’m finished with my internship doesn’t mean that I’ll be gone forever! I'm happy to say that I'll still remain the official blogger for The Globe! I will also strive to keep in touch with you all; whenever I’m back home in NYC I’ll be sure to let you all know :)

Once again, thank you thank you THANK YOU for everything you all have shown and done for me during the course of my stay here! I will miss you all so much, but I know we’ll meet again soon ♥

The Globe Interns: West Coast Edition!

We all know it takes a lot of work to run a fashion company of any kind, especially a showroom! Our sister showroom The Globe West, located in Los Angeles, helps to manage our collections and spread The Globe brand around the western part of the United States. Assisting Karen Spaulding and Tracey Burton in LA are their 4 interns: Casey, Bella, Olivia, and Janelle. All of the girls get along really well inside and out the showroom.

Casey Griffin (pictured above with our Audgen knitwear collection), a 19 year old from Santa Barbara, has been interning at The Globe West for a little over a month. Despite the fact that she just started her internship, Casey is enjoying every minute of it! Studying Merchandising and Marketing at FIDM, Casey felt working in a showroom would give her the best inside look to how the industry is run.

The Globe West interns share the same responsibilities as The Globe East interns, respectively. Some of Casey's daily tasks include: filing, organizing collections, running errands, merchandising, and sharing her thoughts on the various collections within the showroom. But all their hard work does come with great payoffs! Recently the interns got the chance to help out at Lucky Magazine's shop event at the Nicholas K booth, where the girls mingled and promoted collections to buyers! Casey's favorite part of working in wholesale is learning how to work with buyers, as well as seeing the behind the scenes aspect of the industry. Her goal is to become a buyer in the contemporary field (her favorite designers being Sam & Lavi, Heartloom, Indah, & Stone Cold Fox), so this internship is a perfect match!

The main lesson Casey has learned is to "be ready for whatever is thrown at you, and always come with an open mind." Overall, Casey is truly enjoying her internship at The Globe West. She is able to transfer her college studies with what she is learning from the showroom, as well as having a foot in the industry at a young age. With its laid-back lifestyle and cool designer collections, the Globe West is a great showroom to learn and explore the fashion industry!

Interning at The Globe!

You always hear about The Globe Showroom through buyers, PR reps, and designers. But what really goes on behind our pristine glass walls? No one knows better than the interns at the Globe! We have the ultimate behind-the-scenes access of what it takes to run a showroom in a professional yet fun manner. I, Bianca Gracie, along with Jose Huayta, Courtney Bickel, and Mayran Ben-Simon have been interning here for 2 months so far, and it is truly a blast! From merchandising various collections, to branding a designer, to pitching a collection to a client, we learn and experience the ins & outs of a fashion showroom. We have the rare opportunity to be surrounded by major buyers from established department stores & boutiques all around the world (even if we're just sneaking a peak of an appointment behind a clothing rack!). We also learn about the responsibilites that comes with wholesale, through our fabulously dressed & very sweet sales reps!

The fashion industry is known to be cut-throat & crazy at times. But don't worry, our cat claws will not be making an appearance! Interning alongside eachother at the Globe has cemented friendships that I believe will be long-lasting. Through meeting and speaking with our designers, attending fashion week events together, and just sharing a conversation over lunch, us interns have come to learn that we share many of the same interests!

Despite suffering through not-so-glamourous burns from the steamer; merchandising, re-merchandising, & merchandising a single collection within a few hours; making runs for coconut water & fedex packages, or getting trapped within a sea of tangled hangers, being a Globe intern is truly a great fashion experience that we're all grateful for! I have personally learned more than I could have imagined so far, & I'm positive the other interns can say the same. I can't wait to see what the next few months has in store for us!
