My last day at The Globe!

Today is my last full day of interning at The Globe Showroom, and I found it necessary to reflect on the amazing time I’ve had here. 6 months ago, I began this journey as a quiet intern who didn't really know where I wanted to go with my fashion career. Looking back, I've realized how much I've grown as a person. I am more confident with myself and with my knowledge of the fashion industry, and I couldn't have got to this point without The Globe!

Throughout my months of interning, I've learned many vital lessons that I know will be crucial for the years to come. I have contributed with sales, PR, merchandising, marketing, and retail; where else can you learn all of those things at once?

I have become so connected with the collections, the showroom space, and the atmosphere that it is going to so difficult to leave. I don't feel like an intern anymore, I feel like I'm a part of your team.

Ashley, Angela, Justine, Amy, Korie, Emily Chen, Emily Glass, Lizanne, Bruno, Lisa, Jeffrey, Tracey, Karen, Marie Jo, I cannot thank you all enough for the kindness you all showed me during my time here. I have learned so many different things by working with you, watching your appointments, and just having regular conversations with you all. It's going to be incredibly weird not seeing your faces 3 times a week!

Interning at The Globe has refined my views of the inner workings of the fashion industry and how everything runs behind-the-scenes. I will be leaving this internship with so much knowledge and respect for this industry; I’m grateful that you all have taught me this. I'll miss getting stuck in the dreaded hanger closet, ooh-ing & aah-ing over new season collections, assisting with buyer appointments, & helping you all out with strengthening your accounts.

Just because I’m finished with my internship doesn’t mean that I’ll be gone forever! I'm happy to say that I'll still remain the official blogger for The Globe! I will also strive to keep in touch with you all; whenever I’m back home in NYC I’ll be sure to let you all know :)

Once again, thank you thank you THANK YOU for everything you all have shown and done for me during the course of my stay here! I will miss you all so much, but I know we’ll meet again soon ♥

On The Road With Ashley!

Ashley looking very chic despite sweltering 100 degree weather, outside the Singer 22 offices!

Last Thursday, our very own Ashley went on a mini "Holiday" road trip to Long Island! Making her way through East Hills, Manhasset, Ocean Side, and Greenvale, Ashley presented a diverse selection of Holiday collections: Aro, Sam & Lavi, Fred & Sibel, Camilla & Marc, Kimberly Taylor, and Sunner.

According to Ashley, the buyers really enjoyed the collections; their favorites being Sam & Lavi and Camilla & Marc. She explained to me that "they loved Camilla & Marc because the collection is really forward and they loved all the bright colors. Sam & Lavi's collection is very easy and has nice price points, which they like."

Ashley has a lot of buyer relationships in NYC, but she said it was nice to get out of the city for a while: "It's nice to see all the stores and the customers are very interesting; sometimes they differ from NYC girls while other times they both are very similar."

But the Long Island customers do have a style all their own! "Long Island girls are definitely sexier! They are more into looking good and having clothes that suit their personal style, rather than always sticking to trends."

Overall, Ashely's Long Island trip was a success and an enjoyable getaway from the city!

Globe Gives Back: Ophelia's Wardrobe

The Globe Showroom has recently donated clothing to Ophelia's Wardrobe, an auction/designer sale that benefits the Child and Family's Ophelia's programs, which supports young girls and provides them with a safe environment where they can discuss topics in a private space.

This weekend (Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th) the sale, which will feature a diverse selection of jewelry, clothing, and shoe designers, will take place at the Ochre Court Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island.

On Friday, the 2-day event will begin with a cocktail preview sale, and will end the evening with a Style Week fashion show. You will get the chance to preview the best collections from New England's designers, all while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and an open bar.

Saturday, the main event day, will host the public sale. The designers will be in attendance, so it's a great opportunity to meet with local talent!

Korie Takes Miami Coast!

Korie Miranda, one of our fabulous sales reps at The Globe, recently took a trip to sunny Miami for its annual trade show! Hosted at the luxurious Moore Building in Miami's Design District from May 16th-17th, the Coast trade show brings together buyers and showroom representatives, all while showcasing beautiful collections.

Korie graciously let me speak with her about her quick, yet jam-packed experience at Miami Coast!

How was your experience at the Moore Building?

While it was my 2nd time going to Coast, it was my first time being in the new venue. I think it was a very proper venue for the trade show. The building had a terrace-like feel; it was very open and inviting.

What collections did you bring with you to Coast?

I brought: We Are Handsome, Sam & Lavi, Fred & Sibel, DOMA, Kimberly Taylor, Sunner, Glynneth B, and Nancy Caten.

How was the response to the collections?

The two collections that had the most responses were Kimberly Taylor and Fred & Sibel. Kimberly Taylor fits the younger Miami party girl. Fred & Sibel's cashmere is good for girls who are often in places with Air-Conditioning. The cashmere is light and breathable; the buyers don't go for itchy wool.

Do you think there is a difference between southern and northern buyers?

The weather plays a big role. For Fall and Holiday collections, the buyers in the South focus more on lightweight goods. The Southern buyers are not stuck on trends alone either; they like to have items that will work effortlessly with pieces they already have in their wardrobe.

Miami is steadily becoming one of the "It" cities for fashion. Did you notice any trends?

I saw a lot of different maxi dresses, it was a very "Boho Chic" look. The Miami girl is casual, yet still cute and put together.

What would be your essential Miami item for a fun day at the beach?

For the beach, I would go with one of Sunner's floral print maxi dresses. A We Are Handsome bathing suit would be great too!

How about for a night on the town?

My choice would be a cute Kimberly Taylor party dress.

What is your favorite part about being in Miami?

My favorite part is definitely the weather! The show was really relaxed; they had a DJ, cocktails, and we were always being served food! This made the show very appealing and provided comfort for the buyers.

Overall, the Miami Coast show was very successful and very fun! Can't wait to see what next year brings :)
