My Milan Fashion Week Favorite: Roberto Cavalli!

Last week put all of the fashion world in a frenzy as the top Italian designers debuted their Spring '12 collection in Milan! Paris fashion week is still happening as I type, but I feel that Milan has had the strongest fashion week for this season!

Milan's fashion week centered around sexy and robust Italian women, which was refreshing to see. It was extremely difficult to pick a favorite, but I did land on one: Roberto Cavalli.

Here's an excerpt of my review from my blog:

"The incredible detailing and handiwork in this collection is astounding; it makes the collection almost couture-like. The gold sequin touches especially took the collection to the next level. The structure and tailoring of pieces like the blazers were very Parisian, something I wouldn’t expect from Cavalli. But it worked beautifully. The collection was mesmerizing; from the vivid prints to the textured leather to the detailed beading, this Spring ’12 collection definitely set the standard of what a collection is supposed to look like."

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 8: Marc Jacobs

Yesterday, Spring '12 NYFW sadly came to a close. But the day wasn't shy about its exit! Designers brought their A-games to their collections, but once again I could only choose one favorite. For the last day of NYFW, my favorite collection was Marc Jacobs!

Designer Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs' collections are always a hit or miss for me (usually a miss...). But his Spring '12 collection was great! I loved the 1920s references, from the drop-waists to the headscarves. I'm a big fan of sheer details as well, and there was plenty of that in this collection! Overall, Marc Jacobs was a superb close to the end of NYFW!

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 7: 3.1 Phillip Lim

Day 7 of NYFW had many strong contenders who had various design aesthetics! But after looking at the show schedule, I already knew who my favorite of the day would be! 3.1 Phillip Lim consistently designs clothes that appeal to every woman of every lifestyle, which is why I love his brand and his Spring '12 collection!

Designer Phillip Lim
I loved the simplicity and the clean lines that the collection had. The pastels were very delicate yet were tailored to perfection. But it was the minimalism that drew me in to this collection. Out of all the wildly printed collections this week, 3.1 Phillip Lim definitely stood out!

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 6: Vera Wang

Day 6 of NYFW proved itself to be very strong, showcasing some of the top designers in the industry. Thus, it was a bit of challenge to pick a favorite! But I did manage to settle on one: Vera Wang.

Designer Vera Wang

For the past few seasons, Vera Wang has been steering away from the elegant NYC woman & has turned into a more edgy and sleek young woman. Contrary to others' beliefs, I think this is a fresh transition for the designer! Her Spring '12 collection was still edgy, but there were delicate touches through the fabrics and colors that made for a strong collection.

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 5: Preen

I've always had a soft spot for Preen; I think their designs are incredible. So when I found out that the label was going to present at Fashion Week yesterday, I instantly knew that I was going to love it. Turns out that Preen's Spring '12 fashion show was my favorite of the day!

Designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi

Preen is known for being a sexy & tough brand, but the designers' Spring '12 collection's vibe was completely the opposite! I'm not a fan of clothing that is overtly girly, but I immediately was in awe with this very sweet collection! The pastel shades were spot-on, the prints were fun, and the peek-a-boo sheer details were the perfect touch.

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 4: Thakoon

Day 4 of NYFW was a bit uninspiring for me; I wasn't huge fans of the designers in the line-up. Nevertheless, I did find a collection that was intriguing, fun, and unexpected! I picked Thakoon as my favorite. The young designer's Spring '12 collection stood out from all the others from the day, which is why it caught my eye!

Designer Thakoon Panichgul

At first glance, this collection seemed too fussy and complicated. But if you stripped away the fluorescent hair and looked past the cowboy flair, you instantly fell in love with the actual clothes themselves! Thakoon has a great eye for construction and detail, which is shown in this season's cute cocktail dresses!

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 3: Alexander Wang

It was a real challenge to pick my favorite show from Day 3 of NYFW; the majority of the collections were very innovative & modern! But I've managed to narrow them down to one collection: Alexander Wang. The young designer has a way of making girls feel sexy yet tough; who wouldn't want to have that feeling?

Designer Alexander Wang
I've been a fan of Alexander Wang since I first saw his Spring '08 collection. He has mastered the NYC grunge-glamour that girls seek in their clothing, and his most recent Spring '12 collection continues that look. NYFW is all about sportswear for me, and this collection takes it to the next level. I especially love the details: the mesh pockets, the perforated leather bandannas, and the fun leather backpacks.

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 2: Rag & Bone

Day 2 of NYFW featured an array of designers with various aesthetics and inspirations! After sorting through all of them, I landed on my favorite collection of the day: Rag & Bone. The brand is known for creating looks for the young, modern, casually "cool" girl. Their Spring '12 collection further developed that mission!

Designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright
Rag & Bone's Spring '12 was the epitome of surfer-chic. I always look forward to Rag & Bone because they have mastered the feminine-masculine combination. With this recent collection, they highlighted the masculine side by creating California-vintage sporty looks. The various pops of neon were great too!

NYFW Spring '12 Picks! Day 1: Nicholas K

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week is finally here & us Globe girls are very excited! Every day I, Bianca Gracie, will be posting my favorite Spring 2012 show of the day! Let's begin, shall we?

The Globe's own Nicholas K kicked off the week yesterday morning at Lincoln Center to great reviews! Now I'm not being biased here, but the NYC-based sibling duo's Spring collection was my favorite of the day. Known for their grungy-earthy aesthetic, the designers decided to lighten their approach to their clothing, which made for a fresh collection!

Designers Christopher & Nicholas Kunz
Being a fan of the brand & having to work with the clothes in the past, I've always admired the way the designers created layered looks. With this collection, the signature layering was still there. But with lighter colors and breezy fabrics, Nicholas K makes layering appropriate for the Spring season!
